The Project
Berbera, Somaliland sits at one of the most compelling intersections in the world — direct road access to 120 million Ethiopian consumers via the Berbera Corridor, a DP World-operated port and free zone, and a coastline with virtually untapped sustainable fishing potential. Currently less than 2% of that potential is exploited.
Gulf of Aden Holdings is building the first integrated food operation on this coastline. A commercial greenhouse farm using seawater evaporative cooling technology developed with Aston University, combined with Gulf of Aden seafood processing and a fully operational cold chain anchored at the Port of Berbera.
What We're Building
Greenhouse Farming
Seawater-cooled, solar-powered, zero freshwater dependency. Fresh vegetables, herbs, eggs, and moringa grown year-round on the Somaliland coast using technology developed with Aston University and Seawater Greenhouse Ltd.
Gulf of Aden Fisheries
The Gulf of Aden holds an estimated 190,000–210,000 tonnes of sustainable fishing potential annually. Currently less than 2% is exploited. We are building the processing, cold chain, and export infrastructure to change that.
Community & Impact
Majority women-staffed from day one. Paid internships for Somaliland university students. Five to ten per cent of all produce donated weekly to Berbera schools, documented and reported quarterly.
Why Berbera
Berbera sits at the intersection of the Gulf of Aden, DP World's port infrastructure, the Berbera Corridor to 120 million Ethiopian consumers, and a proven seawater greenhouse technology already piloted within 15 kilometres of our farm site.
No comparable integrated food operation exists on this coastline. The combination of location, technology, diaspora-led ownership, and community trust creates a competitive position that cannot be replicated from outside.
