About Gulf of Aden Holdings
Gulf of Aden Holdings Ltd is a UK-registered company established by Ali Abdirahman, a Somaliland diaspora investor and Danish citizen based in London. The company is building commercial greenhouse farming and seafood processing operations near Berbera, Somaliland.
The project combines seawater evaporative cooling technology — developed through research by Aston University and Seawater Greenhouse Ltd, with a pilot site already operational within 15 kilometres of our farm ….combined with Gulf of Aden seafood processing, artisanal sea salt production, and a cold chain anchored at the DP World-operated Port of Berbera.
The Founder
Ali Abdirahman is a Somaliland-born entrepreneur with a background in hospitality operations and technology. He holds UK and Danish citizenship and is based in London. His Danish citizenship gives the company direct access to DANIDA grant funding, whilst his Somaliland heritage provides the community relationships, land access, and local trust that no outside investor can replicate.
The business is managed remotely from London using Starlink connectivity, IoT sensor monitoring, and a structured daily reporting rhythm with on-the-ground staff in Berbera. Ali makes quarterly visits to Somaliland to maintain relationships, oversee operations, and build the community partnerships that sit at the heart of the project.
